University Hall Tops UEW Annual Inter-Hall Cross-Country Competition
The University Hall of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) has been crowned the overall winner of the 2023 UEW Annual Inter-Hall Cross-Country Competition.
The 10-kilometre race, organised under the auspices of the Directorate of Amalgamated Sports Clubs of UEW, was to select potent athletes to compete in the upcoming inter-university cross-country at the University of Ghana, Legon. Â
76 athletes from the University Hall, Simpa Hall, Aggrey Hall, Ghartey Hall, and Ajumako Hall competed in the annual inter-hall cross-country race, which was held at Ajumako.
17-year-old Achiki N-Vanee of the University Hall won the female race with a time of 40:44.14. She was followed by Hawa Combatt of the Simpa Hall in second place with a time of 41:43.07 and Asana Hamidu, also of the Simpa Hall, in third place with a time of 44:25.78.
The male race saw University Hall completely dominate the event, claiming the top three spots. Morris Bazaa blazed the trail with a time of 34:03.37. He was followed by Anthony Gammoh, who placed second with a time of 34:06.22, and Dzorgbesi K. Germain, who placed third with a time of 35:40.19.
Overall, the University Hall was rated first with 71 points. They were followed by Simpa Hall, who garnered 92 points in the second spot, and Ajumako Hall, who grabbed 223 points in the third spot.
At the closing ceremony, the College Principal for the Ajumako Campus of UEW, Prof. Dominic Kwaku Danso Mensah, commended the organisers for putting together an impressive event. He also praised the resilience of athletes and mentioned that management had allocated some funds to the Sports Directorate at the Ajumako Campus to improve sports infrastructure and the development of sporting activities.
The representative of the Ag. Registrar, Mrs. Theresa Ewusie Jabialu, was impressed with the competitive nature of the event, which was well attended. She hoped for greater euphoria and competition in the subsequent year.
