Institute for Educational Research and Innovation Studies

Overview

INTRODUCTION

Research is critical to the mainstay of every university. It is one of the three core functions of every university, namely, teaching, research and community engagement. Research and scholarship provide opportunities for universities to create new knowledge for themselves, academia and for the country. It enables students to learn analytical, creative and problem solving skills that are required for sustainable development. Lack of sufficient research undermines the core business of the university.

The three (3) research centres of the University (Centre for Educational Policy Studies (CEPS), Centre for School and Community Science and Technology Studies (SACOST) and National Centre for Research into Basic Education (NCRIBE) were amalgamated to form the Institute for Educational Research and Innovation Studies (IERIS). The creation of IERIS seeks to upgrade UEW from a teaching university to a teaching and research university so as to strengthen the teaching component of the core mandate of the University.
