SACOST Pursues Collaboration with STEM Organisations
The Centre for School and Community Science and Technology Studies (SACOST) on Friday, 22nd November 2024, explored collaboration opportunities with three vital science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) focused organisations.
Led by Prof. Enoch F. Sam, the Head of SACOST and supported by Dr. Victus Kumazah and Dr. Ethel Ansaah Addae (Research Fellows), the team engaged with representatives from Asustem Robotics Academy, INOVTECH STEM Centre, and STEMbees Academy.
The primary goal for the trip was to establish partnerships to advance STEM education and capacity-building initiatives in Ghana. Each organisation shared a vision aligned with SACOST's mission to empower students and communities through innovative STEM programmes.
At Asustem Robotics Academy, the team explored initiatives such as robotics, AI, coding, and data analytics training for diverse age groups and projects like "Girl Power" for women in tech and IT training for older people. INOVTECH STEM Centre emphasised its robotics education and STEAM curriculum development expertise, offering critical thinking and creativity-focused programmes. STEMbees Academy highlighted its work in bridging the gender gap in STEM by mentoring girls and young women, preparing them for robotics competitions, and building a support network for women in science.
Each organisation expressed a strong commitment to collaboration, with plans to formalise these partnerships through Memoranda of Understanding (MoU). SACOST was also invited to participate in INOVTECH’s upcoming STEM exhibition at Accra Technical University on 30th November 2024.
These collaborative programmes, with their focus on critical thinking, creativity, and gender equality, have the potential to inspire a new generation of STEM enthusiasts and bridge the skills development and community empowerment gaps. Through these partnerships, SACOST is poised to expand its reach and contribute meaningfully to advancing STEM education in Ghana.
