About UEW
Established in September 1992 under PNDC Law 322, the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), embarked on a transformative journey dedicated to advancing education. In May 2004, it achieved a significant milestone with the enactment of the University of Education Act, (2004) Act 672, elevating it to full university status.
UEW's history is marked by the merger of seven diploma-awarding colleges, including the Advanced Teacher Training College, Specialist Training College, and National Academy of Music all in Winneba; the School of Ghana Languages in Ajumako; the College of Special Education in Akwapim-Mampong; the Advanced Technical Training College in Kumasi; and the St. Andrews Agricultural Training College in Asante-Mampong. This consolidation created a diverse and dynamic educational institution.
The enactment of the Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development Act (2020), Act 1026, in 2020 marked another pivotal moment in UEW's journey, restructuring UEW for the ever-evolving educational landscape.
