UEW Introduces Chinese Language Proficiency Course for the First Time

The University of Education, Winneba (UEW), has commenced its maiden Chinese Language Proficiency Course, marking a historic milestone in the Institution’s commitment to broadening linguistic and cultural horizons.
The much-anticipated programme commenced on 1st March, 2025, at 10:00 am, at Seminar Room II, Students Centre, North Campus.

The initiative is a collaborative effort between the Department of Applied Linguistics, UEW, and the Confucius Institute at the University of Ghana. The first session recorded an impressive turnout of 23 students, with more expected to enroll as admissions remain open.
Speaking to the UEW Media Relations team, Dr. Rogers Krobea Asante, the Acting Head of the Department of Applied Linguistics and Host of the programme, expressed satisfaction with the commencement of the course.

He described the initiative as long overdue and commended the University Management for their support in making it a reality. Dr. Asante further underscored the numerous benefits of learning Chinese, including: Scholarship Opportunities, Career Growth, Valuable Linguistic Skills, Global Exposure, Business and Trade Advantage, Cultural Exchange and Experience, and HSK Certification for Proficiency Recognition.
He also encouraged students, staff, and the general public to seize the opportunity to enroll in the course.

The course instructor, Mr. Gao Tianhe, expressed excitement about being the first to teach Chinese at UEW. He described the opportunity as an honour and took pride in being a part of history as the institution promotes multilingualism.
The students who attended the maiden session shared their enthusiasm, noting the engaging and practical lessons. They urged their peers to take advantage of this opportunity, given the immense personal and professional benefits of learning the Chinese language.
