UEW Signs MoU with CIUG to Start Chinese Instruction
In a collaboration aimed at enriching cultural exchange and academic programmes, the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), and the Confucius Institute at the University of Ghana (CIUG) have initialled a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to introduce the Chinese language and culture programmes at UEW that heralds a new chapter in linguistic diversity and cross-cultural engagement.
The signing ceremony, held today, Monday, 4th March, 2024, at the Council Chamber, North Campus, UEW, marks the initiation of a transformative venture set to unfold over the next three years. With the potential for renewal, this partnership promises to deepen cultural understanding and linguistic proficiency among students.
Under the MoU, UEW assumes responsibility for student enrollment, classroom facilitation, and programme implementation, while CIUG pledges its expertise in language instruction, cultural immersion, and resource provision. Together, they aim to cultivate a dynamic learning environment that fosters fluency in Chinese language and appreciation for its rich heritage.
Speaking at the event, Prof. Stephen Jobson Mitchual, Vice-Chancellor of UEW, emphasised the pivotal role of language in driving economic progress and affirmed the university's dedication to this initiative. “We have a whole faculty that concentrates on foreign languages made up of highly skilled resource personnel to make this initiative prosperous,” he stated.
Prof. Jimin Wang, Chinese Director at CIUG, lauded UEW's significance in Ghana's educational landscape, highlighting its crucial role in nurturing skilled educators for the nation and beyond. "The University of Education, Winneba, is so important for the country because education is the foundation for all," remarked Prof. Wang, underscoring the profound impact of UEW's mission on national development.
