UEW GOT Mobility Project Team Champions Digital Transformation in Teaching and Learning

The University of Education, Winneba (UEW) has reaffirmed its commitment to digital literacy and innovative teaching methodologies by hosting a two-day seminar to equip faculty members with advanced digital tools for education.

The seminar featured engaging, hands-on presentations from experts, including Dr. Daniel Danso Essel, Dr. (Mrs.) Patricia Ananga, Dr. Philip Siaw Kissi, Dr. Desmond Appiah, Dr. Frank Quansah, and Dr. Wilson Osafo Apeanti.

Prof. Benjamin Ghansah, the lead for the GOT Mobility Project, highlighted the university's continuous commitment to digital transformation, noting that last year’s first phase of the dissemination workshop benefitted four faculties.
He indicated that the second phase, which began with the Faculty of Health, Allied Sciences, and Home Economics Education (FHASHEE), focused on training lecturers in digital literacy, particularly the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in education.
“The workshop aimed to introduce faculty to state-of-the-art digital tools for teaching and learning. Participants were guided through various tools and engaged in hands-on experiences. We expect them to implement these strategies in their lesson delivery and serve as catalysts for change, helping to establish UEW as a pioneering institution in digital literacy,” he noted.
Prof. Ghansah emphasised plans to extend training to other faculties and engage management in investing in ICT infrastructure.

Prof. Emmanuel Osei Sarpong, Dean of FHASHEE, underscored the transformative role of digital tools in contemporary education. “Effective teaching is not merely about content delivery; it is about fostering an engaging and interactive learning environment,” he asserted.
He pointed to platforms such as Mentimeter, which facilitates real-time student participation and feedback, and urged faculty members to embrace continuous learning and innovation. “The digital tools we discussed today are not merely trends—they are essential for making education more effective and student-centred,” he remarked.

Prof. Jonathan Ammah stressed the importance of embracing digital transformation, reminding participants that the world had become a global village. He emphasised the necessity of contextualising global advancements to suit local educational needs, ensuring technology’s relevance to faculty objectives. He commended the organising committee for assembling such an impactful gathering and urged participants to take full advantage of the knowledge-sharing opportunity.
As the seminar concluded, Prof. Ammah reiterated the necessity of a university-wide approach to digital literacy, advocating for its expansion beyond FHASHEE to all faculties within UEW. “The future of education depends on how well institutions adapt to the digital era. I encourage all faculty members to champion innovation within their departments,” he stated.
The seminar reinforced UEW’s strategic vision of enhancing digital education and empowering faculty members to integrate technology into their pedagogical approaches. The institution's ongoing investment in digital literacy positions it to become a trailblazer in innovative teaching and learning in Ghana and beyond.
