Dean of FHASHEE-UEW Encourages Freshmen to Strive for New Horizons

Prof. Emmanuel Osei Sarpong, Dean of the Faculty of Health, Allied Sciences and Home Economics Education (FHASHEE) at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), has welcomed FHASHEE’s new cohort of students with a call to strive for excellence and explore new horizons.
He urged the fresh students for the 2024/2025 academic year to fully utilise the faculty's resources and support networks to achieve academic excellence. He emphasised the faculty’s dedication to preparing students for impactful careers in health, allied sciences, and home economics. He underscored the importance of the disciplines within FHASHEE.
“Whether you are studying nutrition, health education, or home economics, you are entering a discipline that plays a vital role in shaping the well-being of individuals, families, and communities,” he said.

Prof. Sarpong outlined the holistic educational experience UEW offers, urging students to take advantage of opportunities beyond the classroom. “You will have opportunities to engage in hands-on practice, to conduct research, and to participate in community-based projects,” he explained.
He encouraged the students to immerse themselves in the academic, social, and cultural life of the university by attending seminars, workshops, and extracurricular activities.
Acknowledging the challenges of university life, the Dean assured the students of the faculty’s support. “Our lecturers and staff are here to help you navigate the challenges of university life. Do not hesitate to reach out for guidance, whether it’s academic advice, career counselling, or personal support,” he urged.

He reminded them that success was not just an individual pursuit but a collective effort built on community and collaboration.
Prof. Sarpong encouraged resilience, highlighting the importance of leaning on the university community during difficult times. “Together, we are stronger, and together we will help you overcome any obstacles that come your way,” he said.
The welcome ceremony marked the commencement of an exciting journey for the new students, who will have access to hands-on practice, research opportunities, and community-based projects. With its emphasis on excellence, FHASHEE is poised to shape the minds and futures of its students, empowering them to make a meaningful impact in Ghana and beyond.
