UEW-ICTE Department Explores Partnership with eTranzact Ghana Ltd

The Department of Information and Communication Technology Education (ICTE) of the Faculty of Science Education (FSE) at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) has taken steps towards bridging academia and industry by engaging eTranzact Ghana Ltd, the Fintech Company of the Year 2024.

The primary objective of this engagement on Wednesday, 19th March, 2025, was to discuss potential opportunities for students within the Department of ICT Education.

Led by Prof. Victus Samlafo, Dean of FSE, the six-member delegation included Prof. Delali Kwasi Dake, Head of the Department of ICT Education, and key representatives of INFOCTESS-UEW, the student body for ICT Education. Prof. Dake highlighted prior discussions with eTranzact Ghana Ltd and emphasised the immense benefits that a partnership would bring to both institutions.

Prof. Dake also acknowledged the warm reception from the company’s senior management, including Chief Operating Officer Benjamin Quarcoo, Chief Technical Officer Oladapo Bolarinwa, and other key executives.

Dr. John Apea, CEO of eTranzact Ghana Ltd, pledged strong institutional support, offering industrial training in mobile technology development and electronic transactions, internship and national service placements, and a one-year sponsorship of a professorial chair for the department. Additionally, he underscored the company's commitment to empowering female students in technology through scholarships and mentorship programmes. 

Dr. Apea outlined eTranzact Ghana Ltd's 2025 vision, which prioritises educational support and innovation. He announced that steps would soon be taken to formalise the partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with UEW.

Expressing gratitude for the collaboration, Prof. Samlafo reaffirmed the university’s dedication to fostering industry-academia ties and proposed an incubation hub at UEW to host future projects with eTranzact Ghana Ltd.

This engagement marks a transformative partnership aimed at equipping UEW students with industry-relevant skills, positioning them at the forefront of Ghana’s rapidly evolving fintech landscape.
