UEW Quality Assurance Team Strengthens Ties with KNUST in a Working Visit

To enhance quality assurance in higher education, a five-member delegation from the Quality Assurance Directorate (QAD) of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) has embarked on a five-day working visit to the Quality Assurance and Planning Office (QAPO) at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
The visit, aimed at fostering collaboration, sharing best practices, and strengthening quality assurance frameworks within both institutions, took place from Monday, 17th to Friday, 21st February, 2025.
Led by the Director of QAD, Prof. Robert Andrews Ghanney, the team engaged with various units of QAPO, gaining insights into KNUST’s structured approach to accreditation, examination audits, institutional planning, and monitoring and evaluation. Key engagements included discussions with the Dean of QAPO, Prof. Jerry John Kponyo, and interactions with the Examination Audit Section, Management Information Systems (MIS) Section, and the Institutional Planning and Policy Section, among others.
One of the major takeaways from the visit was the role of digital transformation in quality assurance. KNUST employs platforms such as Power BI, Turnitin, and Google Drive for data management, accreditation tracking, and institutional rankings. Team QAD observed that adopting similar digital tools at UEW could significantly enhance operational efficiency. Additionally, the structured mentorship programme for new lecturers at KNUST and its rigorous examination moderation system were identified as best practices worthy of emulation.
The visit concluded with a debriefing session where Prof. Kponyo commended Team QAD for their commitment to improving quality standards at UEW. He assured them of QAPO’s willingness to collaborate further, including a potential reciprocal visit to UEW.
With the knowledge gained, UEW’s QAD is now set to modernise its quality assurance structures, enhance accreditation processes, and adopt data-driven decision-making practices. This visit marks the beginning of a strengthened partnership between UEW and KNUST, positioning both institutions at the forefront of academic excellence in Ghana.
The QAD Team comprised Prof. Robert Andrews Ghanney, Director (Team Lead); Prof. Emma Sarah Eshun, Deputy Director; Mrs. Shiella Appiah Kubi, Assistant Registrar; Mr. Ebenezer Adams, Senior Administrative Assistant and Mr. Eric Kumi, Assistant Transport Officer.
