UEW Library Receives Multidisciplinary Books from Gomoa Apra Queen Mother
In a gesture of goodwill and collaboration, the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) Library has received a generous donation of 450 multidisciplinary books from a delegation representing Gomoa Apra in the Central Region.
The invaluable contribution, aimed at enriching the library's collection and bolstering academic resources for students and faculty, marks a significant milestone in fostering collaboration between academia and local communities.
Led by Nana Kofi Ansah I, Odikro of Gomoa Apra, the delegation presented the donation on behalf of Obaahemaa Ekua Egyiriba I, the queen mother of the town. The initiative, spearheaded by Prof. Samuel Kwesi Asiedu-Addo of UEW, was catalysed by Obaahemaa Ekua Egyiriba I's desire to support education in Ghana by donating books from Lehmann College Library in Bronx, New York.
Reflecting on the genesis of the donation, Prof. Asiedu-Addo recounted the journey of the books from New York to Ghana, highlighting the queen mother's unwavering commitment to advancing education and empowering future generations. "It was through the gracious offer of Obaahemaa Ekua Egyiriba I's friend, Jacqueline, a librarian at Lehmann College, that these books found their way to our university," Prof. Asiedu-Addo explained, underscoring the collaborative efforts that facilitated the donation.
The donated books cover a diverse array of subjects, including mathematics, science, social sciences, ICT, psychology, and English, offering students and faculty a treasure trove of knowledge and insight. Prof. Asiedu-Addo urged students to capitalise on this wealth of resources, emphasising the importance of spending time in the library to maximise their academic potential and excel in their studies.
"While I want students to use the books well, I also expect alumni and other people to continue performing these modest acts of kindness," Prof. Asiedu-Addo remarked, accentuating the transformative impact of collective generosity in advancing education and fostering intellectual growth.
Expressing gratitude on behalf of the university, Prof. Asiedu-Addo extended heartfelt appreciation to Obaahemaa Ekua Egyiriba I, Jacqueline, and Millicent, whose generosity and benevolence have enriched the academic landscape of UEW. Their noble gesture underscores the power of collaboration and underscores the importance of community engagement in promoting education and nurturing future leaders.
As the UEW Library welcomes this invaluable addition to its collection, it stands poised to empower generations of students with the knowledge and resources needed to thrive in an ever-evolving world. The legacy of this donation will endure as a testament to the transformative power of education and the boundless potential of collaborative endeavours.
