The University of Education, Winneba (UEW), has taken a bold step towards modernising its library system organising an intensive five-day training workshop on the Koha Library Management System at the Osagyefo Library from Monday, 3rd to Friday, 7th March, 2025.

The training equipped library staff with advanced digital skills to streamline library operations, improve efficiency, and enhance access to academic resources.

The workshop, spearheaded by Mr. Richard Fordjour, a highly regarded Librarian and Data Protection Supervisor, brought together librarians, IT personnel, and administrative staff to explore the vast capabilities of Koha. The programme focused on essential functions such as cataloguing, acquisitions, patron management, and automated circulation—all crucial in transitioning from traditional to digital library services.

Mr. Fordjour reiterated that the transformation of UEW’s libraries required commitment from all stakeholders. “We are not just keeping up with technology; we are setting a new standard. We are making information more accessible, improving service delivery, and ensuring efficiency, embracing automation,” he said.

His hands-on approach allowed participants to engage in practical exercises, ensuring they fully grasped the functionalities of the software. Throughout the sessions, Mr. Fordjour encouraged active participation, troubleshooting, and real-time application of newly acquired skills.
