The Department of Music Education, in collaboration with the School of Creative Arts (SCA) at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), hosted a reggae concert titled SoundFlames Reloaded Reggae Night with the Pop Band.

The concert, which took place at the forecourt of the John Agyekum Kufuor Building on Friday, 27th February, 2026, drew together staff, students and reggae enthusiasts from the Effutu community and beyond as the headline event launching the Department’s February – March 2026 concert series. Designed as a high-impact live music experience, the programme delivered an electrifying evening of authentic reggae grooves, rich instrumentation and immersive stagecraft that left patrons on their feet from start to finish.

Backed by pulsating basslines, rhythmic guitar chops and vibrant horn sections, the UEW Pop Band treated the audience to an engaging repertoire spanning Root Rock to Lovers Rock. Each performance piece was carefully arranged to highlight the depth and versatility of reggae music while maintaining its signature warmth and socially conscious undertones. The synergy among band members, coupled with their commanding stage presence, created a seamless musical journey that resonated strongly with the crowd.

From the first note to the final encore, the atmosphere at the Central Campus was charged with excitement. Students swayed in unison, faculty members nodded appreciatively to the rhythm and community patrons danced enthusiastically under the night sky. The concert celebrated reggae as a global genre and underscored the Department’s commitment to practical music education and performance excellence.

SoundFlames Reloaded forms part of a broader strategy by the Department of Music Education to create consistent, high-quality performance opportunities for students while enriching the cultural life of the University and the Effutu municipality. By blending entertainment with experiential learning, the Department continues to position itself as a hub for innovative music production and artistic collaboration.

Following the success of Reggae Night, the Department’s performance calendar continues with Ensembles Concerts scheduled from Tuesday, 10th to Thursday, 12th March, 2026, at 7:00 pm each night. The series will climax with Anansegorndwom (Musical Drama) on Thursday, 26th March, 2026, at 7:00 pm, promising yet another captivating showcase of musical storytelling and theatrical artistry.

As the final chords of the reggae classics faded into the Winneba night, one thing was clear: SoundFlames Reloaded was more than just a concert; it was a celebration of creativity, collaboration and the power that transforms music at UEW.
