Department of Music Education Unveils Ultra-Modern Musical Instruments
The Department of Music Education, School of Creative Arts (SCA), University of Education, Winneba (UEW), has unveiled ultra-modern musical instruments and sound equipment at the forecourt of the SCA, Central Campus, UEW, to facilitate the training of students.
The instruments consist of line array speakers, subwoofers, amplifiers, digital mixer board, stage box, drum set, microphones, keyboards, bass guitar, lead guitar, percussions, keyboard monitor, bass monitor, guitar monitor, and stage monitors.
At the launching of the equipment on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mawutor Avoke, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Andy Ofori-Birikorang advised the Department to use the instruments to train its students, perform musical concerts to raise funds for the school, and advertise the university to attract more potential students and stakeholders.
"We've all assembled here to witness a significant milestone in this School's history. We hope that the tools we'll be launching will be used to brand the University, as well as the School. We intend to make this school the top creative arts school in the sub-region," he remarked.
The Head of Department (HoD), Music Education, Mr. John Francis Annan, welcoming guests to the outdooring of the ultra-modern musical instruments, thanked the Management of UEW for expending huge sums of money to promote quality academic and practical studies at the Department.
“This has come to fruition as a result of something we conceived two years ago. Our conception was an extraordinary thing. We have gathered here to outdoor the baby we conceived so many years ago,” the HoD stated.
The Dean of SCA, Prof. Patrique deGraft Yankson, promised to ensure that the instruments are put to very good use adding, “we will try our best to equip our students for the real world to come out with flying colours”.
He entreated staff and students assigned to safeguard the instruments to handle them with extra care for the benefit of all. “My prayer is that the next time we gather like this, we will not chronicle how one instrument got spoilt and we have to request for another set of instruments but chronicle how it has grown from strength to strength. I wish that a very rich band greater than many pop bands in Ghana is developed here and that is my dream, motivation, and prayer.”
The occasion, attended by Deans, Directors, HoDs, administrative staff, and students of UEW, was spiced with live band renditions by the UEW Pop Band.
