Vice-Chancellor Visits Finland to Deepen Partnership with Two Universities
The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), Prof. Mawutor Avoke, has led a delegation from UEW to visit the University of Jyvaskyla (JYU) and Jamk University of Applied Sciences (Jamk) in Finland.
The delegation discussed with partner universities issues concerning the development of friendly international cooperation in academic programmes and scholarly exchanges to serve mutual interests, establishing long-term mutual and economically viable collaborations, and the possibility of Jamk collaborating with the Department of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Sport (HPERS), the Department of Health Administration and Education, and Teacher Education in general.
The visit, which took place from June 12–16, 2023, was at the invitation of the two Finnish universities.
It enabled the delegation to participate in the 2023 JYU Staff Exchange and Global Partner Week as well as co-create a platform for the development of friendly international cooperation for mutual interest between Jamk University of Applied Sciences and UEW.
The programme at JYU was designed for staff who coordinate, develop, and implement student support services such as well-being and peer support. It was also created for university staff who oversee global partnerships and student mobility activities, such as International Credit Mobility (ICM), bilateral university-level partnerships, and short-term mobility.
The programme’s three (3) parallel tracks, which consisted of workshops with active participant participation, allowed the UEW delegation to network with other nationals in areas of mutual interest.
The UEW delegation was exposed to intercultural networking, training well-being skills as part of university studies, case studies of bilateral global partnerships: challenges and best practices, case studies of promoting subject-specific internships, supporting international students' well-being, and case studies of successful virtual exchanges.
The UEW delegation made a presentation titled Relevance and Impact of Erasmus+ ICM Mobility at the University of Education, Winneba, Ghana.
The UEW Vice-Chancellor, acting on its behalf, signed an MOU with Jamk, initialled by its Rector, to formalise the gains made during the visit.
