The University of Education, Winneba (UEW), has received a substantial donation of hearing equipment from Hui'er Ghana Hearing, marking a significant milestone in the university's efforts to improve the conditions of individuals with hearing impairments.

The donation, which took place at the Council Chamber of the UEW on Monday, 3rd March, 2025, was attended by members of the University Management team and the audiology centre. It coincided with World Hearing Day, which raises awareness about addressing hearing loss and improving access to hearing care.

Mr. Emmanuel Kwasi Acheampong, the Coordinator of the Centre for Hearing and Speech Services at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), explained that the donation represents the culmination of a partnership between the audiology centre and Hui'er Ghana Hearing, a Chinese company specialising in hearing aids.

Mr. Acheampong recounted how the partnership began, stating, "About a year ago, an audiologist and long-time volunteer at the centre introduced us to a Chinese company specialising in hearing aids. Executives of the company visited Ghana, toured our facilities, and saw firsthand the impactful work being done there."

Mr. Acheampong expressed gratitude to Hui'er Ghana Hearing for honouring their commitment to support the university's mission. "Today, they have delivered equipment to assist our work, and we are incredibly thankful," he said.

Mr. Benjamin Kwesi Arthur, General Manager of Hui'er Ghana Hearing, emphasised that the donation was a result of the promises made during a previous visit by his Chinese partners. "We have brought two PC-based audiometers, which are more efficient and portable than the equipment currently in use," he explained.

Mr. Arthur noted that they could be used anywhere with a laptop, making it easier for the university to extend its services to remote areas.

This donation is a great service to humanity, and we are incredibly grateful to receive such a generous gift today," he remarked.

Prof. Mitchual praised the work of the university's outreach programmes, assuring the donors that the equipment would be put to good use to enhance the quality of life for those in need. "On behalf of the management of the university, we thank you very much for this wonderful gift. We will ensure that it benefits our community and humankind," he concluded.

The donation aligns with this year's World Hearing Day theme: "Changing Mindsets, Empowering Ourselves to Make Hearing Care a Reality." The event highlighted the importance of tackling hearing loss and improving access to hearing care, particularly in underserved communities.

As the university prepares to integrate the new equipment into its operations, the gesture marks a significant step in expanding hearing care services, not only within the university but across Ghana. With this generous donation, UEW is better positioned to support individuals with hearing impairments and continue its outreach efforts to improve the lives of those in need.
