The University of Education, Winneba (UEW) has reiterated its role as a national thought leader in educational transformation and policy development with its 2025 Public Lecture Series.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Stephen Jobson Mitchual, underscored the university’s dedication to empowering minds, shaping futures, and driving national development through transformative education.

Held under the theme Empowering Minds, Shaping Futures: The Prospects and Challenges of 21st-Century Education, Lessons for Ghana, this year’s lecture series spotlighted the urgent need to reimagine education in a rapidly evolving global landscape. Prof. Mitchual described the series as a vital platform for dialogue among educators, policymakers, and the wider community to address contemporary societal challenges and find solutions that advance Ghana’s socio-economic progress.

“Through initiatives such as the Public Lecture Series, UEW aims to create a platform for meaningful dialogue, allowing stakeholders to collaborate in addressing issues and fostering solutions that promote educational advancement,” he said.

The Vice-Chancellor further highlighted education’s evolving role in the 21st century, stressing that it must move beyond traditional content delivery to cultivating critical thinking, innovation, and global citizenship. According to him, UEW is building its legacy on these ideals, combining academic excellence with active community engagement.

“Education today is transformative; it empowers individuals and equips them to navigate an increasingly complex and interconnected world,” he stated.

Prof. Mitchual noted that UEW is uniquely positioned to lead conversations around higher education reform, innovation, and inclusive development. The Public Lecture Series, he said, was a strategic tool to harness diverse perspectives, stimulate intellectual exchange, and mobilise collective action towards the achievement of Ghana’s sustainable development goals.

The event brought together distinguished scholars, government officials, and civil society actors, all contributing to a rich dialogue on the future of education in Ghana. Prof. Mitchual urged all participants to actively engage in the discussion and to view education as a powerful catalyst for national renewal.

“Let us empower minds to think critically, innovate boldly and dream ambitiously. Together, we can shape a brighter future for Ghana and beyond,” he concluded.

The 2025 UEW Public Lecture Series continues the university’s tradition of promoting scholarship, collaboration, and impactful leadership in education. The event sets the tone for future academic engagements that seek to chart a forward-thinking path for teacher education and national development.
