HR Refines UEW Security Personnel Skills
The Division of Human Resource (HR) in collaboration with the Security Services Directorate, University of Education, Winneba (UEW), has organised a five-day theoretical and practice hands-on workshop to train personnel of the Security Services Directorate.
The workshop, which took place from Monday, 5th to Friday, 9th July, 2021, at the North Campus Assembly Hall in Winneba, was basically to build the capacity and revamp the skills of the Security Staff.
Speaking on behalf of the Registrar, Surv. Paul Osei-Barima Esq. at the opening ceremony, the Deputy Registrar, HR, Mrs. Deborah Afful, thanked Management for their commitment to ensuring that HR organises the workshop to enlighten Security personnel in the University. She also lauded the Directorate of Security Services for bringing up their needs to enable HR to conscientiously respond to them.
“Security issues are becoming more challenging and technology inclined. So, it is important that from time to time the University sets up such workshops and seminars to refresh security personnel of the Security Services Directorate,” she stated.
Mrs. Deborah Afful encouraged participants to get involved and fundamentally interact with facilitators and resource persons on issues to be discussed.
Presenting on the topic “Conditions of Service”, the Head of Employee Relations, HR, Ms. Patricia Kaitoo urged participants not to absent themselves from duty without any genuine reasons. “Absence from duty without reasonable cause is an offence, and an employee may be dismissed or have his appointment terminated after due process of investigations,” she noted.
The Director, UEW Security Services, Mr. Bartholomew Alubokin, who presented on the topic “Report Writing” appealed to participants to ensure that their reports are always clear, concise, and easy to understand. He stressed the importance of every security person presenting factual, detailed and well-written reports promptly.
“The words you put on paper may have a profound impact on the lives of those involved, so it is vital to take your time to do your research, talk to all parties involved and include as much detail as possible in your report,” he remarked.
The Head of Payroll, Mr. Kwame Appiah Hayford, gave participants insight into their salary scale in a hierarchical structure. He amplified the need for them to understand their salary and allowance packages for proper financial planning.
Participants were allowed to ask questions and appropriate answers were given accordingly.
