Fresh Sandwich Students for the 2020/2021 Academic Year Matriculated
The University of Education Winneba (UEW) has today, Thursday, 4th November, 2021, held a matriculation ceremony to formally initiate fresh sandwich students for the 2020/2021 academic year into the University at the Jophus Anamuah-Mensah Conference Centre.
The ceremony offered matriculants the platform to profess their allegiance to the authority of UEW through the administration of the Matriculation Oath to signal their formal induction into the University.
The Ag. Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Andy Ofori-Birikorang, in his address, affirmed UEW’s promise to deliver to matriculants comprehensive training to help them to become a source of enlightenment to peoples of the contemporary and future society.
“This insightful and knowledge-driven training, inspired by our outstanding community of faculty and staff, and anchored on excellent provision of academic facilities in this coastal serene environment, will surely give you the atmosphere of a lifetime university experience,” he averred.
Prof. Ofori-Birikorang underscored UEW’s continual provision and upgrade of facilities, support systems, services and top-quality human resources to support the dynamic efforts of providing excellent education aimed at redirecting Ghana’s effort along the path of rapid economic and social development, and to make its products fully responsive to the realities and exigencies of contemporary Ghana and the West African sub-region.
The Ag. Vice-Chancellor entreated the matriculants to strive for integrity and sincerity, critical thinking and problem-solving skills, proven values and a positive attitude to work. He also implored them to develop themselves to impact their lives and those of society in positive ways.
“The COVID-19 pandemic highlights the need and role of information technology as a leveller for economic transformation and growth as well as relevance. I, therefore, urge you to acquire relevant digital skills to leverage technology and digitalisation in pursuing academic and personal excellence. I assure you that UEW will continue to support you in this direction,” he remarked.
The Registrar, Surv. Paul Osei-Barima Esq. stated the significance of matriculation in the life of every student of UEW. He indicated that the ceremony marks the formal and conclusive admission of fresh students to pursue various academic programmes as junior members of full registration status in the University.
Surv. Osei-Barima Esq. beseeched the matriculants to work hard and uphold the good name of the University at all times. “You are, therefore, advised to study the rules carefully to ensure that you are well informed on all issues about our environment and more importantly make your stay in the University fruitful.”
At the close of applications for the 2020/2021 academic year, a total of 1,855 applicants had applied with 1,369 admitted and duly registered. Out of the total number of registered students, there were 744 undergraduate students and 625 postgraduate students. This constituted 742 registered females representing 54.27% and 626 registered males representing 45.73% of the total registered students.
