The Chinese Scholarship Council has honoured a Lecturer of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), studying at the Northeast Normal University in China, Mr. Mbage Bawa, for his outstanding academic performance as the best international student in China for the 2020/2021 academic year.

Mr. Bawa, who is pursuing his PhD at the Northeast Normal University, China (NENU), is among three international students from NENU who have been awarded the 2020/2021 Chinese Government Outstanding International Student Scholarship through a national selection.

Mr. Bawa, a Lecturer in the Department of Chemistry Education, disclosed in an interview with the UEW Media Relations Unit that the award was the third in a row but for different categories. “The first and second were in Northeast Normal University, and the third was awarded by the Chinese government through the Chinese Scholarship Council, in which I emerged the best international student in the whole of China.”

He is hopeful that the award gained will create a lot of opportunities for him, as well as sharpen his research and teaching skills at UEW.

He revealed that though the task is daunting, with discipline and hard work, he will accomplish more feats.

Mr. Bawa stated that language barrier is a big challenge to him and other colleagues studying in China but this has even encouraged him to learn and to do more research work.

Mr. Mbage Bawa, in his final words, encouraged colleague lecturers that ‘’everything is possible’’, so they should work hard and be determined to take up any task and uphold the good name of UEW and Ghana as a whole.
