UEW Commences Second Session of Chinese Language Proficiency Course

The University of Education, Winneba (UEW) has successfully commenced the second session of the Chinese Language Proficiency Course following the completion of the first session on 14th June 2025. The new session began on Friday, 20th June 2025, at Seminar Room II of the Student Centre, North Campus.

Organised by the Department of Applied Linguistics at UEW, in collaboration with the Confucius Institute at the University of Ghana, the programme welcomed 18 students for this second cohort. The course continues to be facilitated by Mr. Gao Tianhe, who also led the first session.

During an interview with the UEW Media Relations team, Mr. Gao Tianhe, the course instructor, expressed his excitement about being part of the second session. He praised the commitment and performance of students in the first session and revealed that many had registered for the upcoming HSK 1 (Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi) examination scheduled for 22nd June 2025, even before the session ended. He encouraged the new participants to emulate the dedication of their predecessors.

Dr. Rogers Krobea Asante, the Acting Head of the Department of Applied Linguistics and host of the programme, expressed great satisfaction with the successful conclusion of the first session and the start of the second. He described the programme as one with significant potential to support UEW’s internationalisation efforts and thanked University Management for their dedication and support in sustaining the initiative.

Dr. Asante further reiterated the numerous benefits of studying Chinese and encouraged more students, staff and members of the public to take advantage of the opportunity, noting that admissions were still open.

Students in the new session expressed enthusiasm and satisfaction with the learning experience. Many mentioned the practical benefits and opportunities that learning Chinese offers and urged their peers to enrol.

The Chinese Language Proficiency Course continues to be a pioneering initiative, positioning UEW as a progressive institution committed to linguistic diversity, cultural understanding and international engagement.
