1st Batch of Security Training Workshop Comes to a Close
The Division of Human Resource, University of Education, Winneba (UEW) has ended a five-day workshop to upgrade and sharpen the competencies of the first batch security personnel to empower them to improve upon their performances at the University.
The workshop was held from Monday, 5th to Friday, 9th July, 2021, at the North Assembly Hall, Winneba.
The Registrar, Surv. Paul Osei-Barima Esq., in his closing remarks, thanked all participants for their outstanding efforts of participation throughout the weeklong workshop. He also thanked the resource persons for their selfless, time and remarkable teachings to equip the security personnel.
“The University is considered to be a community and, in any community, we have inhabitants, visitors and stakeholders. Wherever there are human beings, visitors and stakeholders, we are bound to have security related issues. Because of this, there is always the need to have the Directorate of Security Services in the operation of the University,” he said.
Surv. Osei-Barima Esq. advised participants to reflect and take everything they had been taught seriously, make things work and act accordingly. “You might in one way or the other encounter some challenges but that shouldn’t make you unprofessional in your work”.
He further noted that as security officers, their manners and behaviours must be measured and that they should always remember that they matter a lot and have a place in the University.
The Deputy Registrar, Division of Human Resource, Mrs. Deborah Afful, also expressed her delight about the smooth weeklong workshop. She applauded participants for their massive support and how they comported themselves during the programme.
Representing the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), Winneba Fire Station, Safety Officers, ADO I Justin Goka, ADO II Ebenezer Fiifi Dadzie and ADO II Dennis Kweku Baah presented on the topic: “Fire Safety and Precautions”. Participants were urged to take safety precautions on fire seriously in order to avoid destructions at home and the workplace, and always be ready to ensure to protect lives and properties. They were also taken through some form of practice hands-on regarding how to quench fire in case there is fire outbreak before they call GNFS for help.
The five-day workshop also took participants through stimulating topics and intensive practical sessions such as “First Aid training, Report Writing, Channels of Communication, Conditions of Service, Fire Safety, Crime and its Related Issues, Disciplinary Procedures, Occurrence Keeping and Observational Technique”.
