Department of Art Education Donates to UTV
The Department of Art Education of the University of Education, Winneba has donated three mural paintings to Universal Television (UTV), in recognition of its contributions to the promotion of arts-oriented programmes for national development.
The three murals titled, Adekye Nsoroma, Power in communication and The Weaves of Beauty are to serve as set designs for UTV’s famous morning show dubbed ‘Adekye Nsoroma’. The designs have high Ghanaian aesthetic content that differs from Eurocentric concept of aesthetics.
The paintings were done by Alex Amoabeng, a 2016 graduate of the Department of Art Education, during his final year of stay on campus.
Presenting the murals to the representatives of UTV at the North Campus of the University of Education, Winneba, Mr. Osuanyi Quaicoo Essel commended the station for the good work done in projecting the Ghanaian culture through their varied programmes. He expressed tha hope that they continue the good works and deepen their contributions in their report on Creative Arts issues for its development. UTV’s representatives thanked the Department for the gesture.
The station’s philosophy of projecting the indigenous Ghanaian culture influenced these paintings.
