FHASHEE-UEW Rallies Alumni and Partners to Promote Sustainable Faculty Development
The Faculty of Health, Allied Sciences and Home Economics Education (FHASHEE) at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) has intensified efforts to enhance teaching, research and infrastructure development through the 2026 Educational Fair and Alumni Homecoming.
This event brought together alumni, industry partners, government officials and the university community to support the faculty's long-term growth.
Held at the UEW Hockey Pitch on Wednesday, 29th July, 2026 under the theme, "Building Together for a Sustainable Future: Strengthening the FHASHEE Legacy through Alumni Partnership," the event showcased the Faculty's academic achievements, research innovations and practical competencies. The platform was also officially used to launch a campaign to mobilise support for the construction of a modern faculty block.
Welcoming participants, Prof. Fred Yao Gbagbo, the Dean of FHASHEE, described the Educational Fair as a platform to celebrate the Faculty's contribution to national development and strengthening collaboration with alumni, industry and development partners.
He highlighted the Faculty's impact in health, nutrition, food security, occupational safety and community development through teaching, research and outreach. He appealed to stakeholders to support the proposed faculty block and other strategic initiatives that will enhance teaching and innovation.
Representing the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Frimpong Kaakyire Duku, the Principal of the College for Distance and eLearning, officially opened the event and commended the Faculty for creating a platform that connected alumni with current students while demonstrating UEW's commitment to practical and innovative teacher education.
He urged alumni to deepen their engagement by mentoring students, creating internship opportunities and contributing to the construction of the proposed faculty block. He described the project as an investment in quality teacher education and national development.
Delivering the keynote address, Dr. Clement Asemnyra, a renowned fashion educator and Founder of Dreams College of Creative Arts, encouraged students to embrace entrepreneurship and innovation by applying the practical knowledge acquired at the Faculty to create employment opportunities.
Reflecting on his journey as an alumnus of UEW, he called on fellow alumni to mentor students, strengthen industry partnerships and support the proposed infrastructure project. He noted that modern teaching and research facilities would significantly enhance academic excellence.
Hon. Rev. Atta Mensah, the Municipal Chief Executive for the Effutu Municipal Assembly and Special Guest of Honour, echoed the Assembly's commitment to strengthening collaboration with UEW. He announced plans to support community health outreach programmes, expand internship opportunities for students and establish an annual Alumni Faculty Forum to deepen collaboration between the Assembly, alumni and the Faculty.
A major highlight of the event was the official launch of the proposed FHASHEE Faculty Block by Prof. Jonathan Ammah, who described the initiative as a significant step towards expanding infrastructure to support quality teaching, learning and research.
The Educational Fair also featured exhibitions of innovative student projects, corporate displays, health screening services, teaching demonstrations, fashion exhibitions by the Department of Clothing and Textiles Education, gymnastics and fitness performances by the Department of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Sports, and a cultural performance by the Makosa group.
The 2026 FHASHEE Educational Fair and Alumni Homecoming reaffirmed UEW's commitment to producing highly skilled professionals while strengthening alumni engagement and strategic partnerships to advance quality education, innovation and sustainable national development.
