Three scholars from the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) have been awarded a grant valued at US$400,000 in laboratory equipment by Seeding Labs, an international non-profit organisation dedicated to strengthening scientific research capacity.

The awardees are Dr. Prosper Angnunavuri Naah, the project lead, Prof. Stephen Jobson Mitchual and Prof. Benjamin Ghansah. Their successful application through Seeding Labs’ Instrumental Access Programme earned UEW a shipment of high-quality laboratory instruments and supplies to bolster research, teaching and innovation at the University.

In a notification letter addressed to the Directorate of Research, Innovation and Development (DRID), Prof. Benjamin Ghansah, on behalf of his colleagues, expressed deep appreciation to Seeding Labs for the invaluable support. He noted that the award was secured through a highly competitive global process that assessed proposals based on vision, institutional readiness and potential for impact.

“The equipment spans a range of cutting-edge tools and instruments that will enhance our capacity in teaching, research and innovation. In line with Seeding Labs’ mission, this donation will help bridge critical gaps in our laboratory infrastructure,” he stated.

Prof. Ghansah further explained that the donated equipment will improve hands-on training for undergraduate and postgraduate students, enable more rigorous research projects and support faculty in publishing at higher international standards. The initiative is also expected to foster interdepartmental collaboration and strengthen UEW’s profile in science and technology.

The achievement marks a significant milestone in UEW’s pursuit of research excellence and international collaboration. It underscores the University’s growing capacity to attract competitive grants and contribute meaningfully to global scientific advancement.
