Ghanaian case study of singing games in ethnomathematics.
This paper is an investigation of African traditional games with a view to recommending its integration in the teaching of mathematics in basic schools. The writers explain how the wholesome deployment of such African traditional games would be of immense value to the teaching of mathematics in schools especially in the less-privileged traditional African communities. The paper presents a graphic analysis of a number of African games, along with vivid tabular illustrations to further justify the position that there are indeed sufficient mathematical values and connections with these African traditional games and school mathematics. They posit that regardless of some researchers’ argument against this position, the African elementary schools’ administration stand a lot of chances to cover more mileage in their efforts at strengthening the inculcating of the mathematics culture in the African schools youths.
