Biography
Born on December 18, 1956, at Kpando in the Volta Region of Ghana, I had my general education and became trained certificated teacher in 1975. After three years’ service as a primary school teacher, I continued my teacher education and obtained the University of Cape Coast Diploma in teaching mathematics in 1981. I tutored in a teacher training college until 1988 when I left to the UK, where I furthered for the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from the University of Leeds. Thus. I hold both an M.Ed (1990) and a PhD (1995) in Mathematics Education.
I am an Associate Professor in Mathematics Education The focus of my academic, teaching and research work are in the fields of mathematics education, curriculum development, educational assessment, pedagogical integration of ICTs and continuing professional development (CPD) of teachers.
I have been a Dean of Faculty for two terms, served as Head of Department for 8 years; and had served as External Examiner to the Department of Science and Mathematics Education, University of Cape Coast and as an external consultant on the Programme Advisory Committee (PAC) for the Koforidua Technical University.
I developed proposals for, and led, in two large scale research projects on continuing professional development of teachers. One was the won the Teaching and Learning Innovation Fund (TALIF) proposal grant of US$ 196,500 from the Ghana Ministry of Education, which was used to carry out a project on ‘Training and Continuing Professional Education of Tertiary Educators’ (TCPETE) from 2006 to 2011. T was the Ghana Focal Person for study on the Pan-African Research Agenda on the Pedagogical Integration of ICT project which was instituted by the University of Montreal and funded by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) in Canada. I was also among the researchers who studied the TIMSS database and generated the Ghana country reports for TIMSS 2003 & 2007.
I have represented UEW on national committees on curriculum development & assessment and facilitated workshops for basic and secondary school teachers as well as teacher educators.
I was trained by the International Network for the Availability of Scientific Publications (INASP) for managing on-line journals. I am currently the managing editor of the African Journal of Educational Studies in Mathematics and Sciences, which is published online at https://www.ajol.info/index.php/ajol/browseBy/country?countryId=82.
