The University of Education, Winneba (UEW) has been named the Most Sustainable University in Ghana and the 893rd Most Sustainable University in the World by the University of Indonesia (UI) GreenMetric World University Rankings for the year 2021.

The ranking is based on six distinct categories: setting and infrastructure, energy and climate change, waste, water, transportation, and education, each with its own weighted indicators.

The UI GreenMetric collects data via an online questionnaire. After all participants have answered some questionnaires over a set period, UI GreenMetric expert members and reviewers validate the answers based on the evidence provided by the participants.

The University of Indonesia launched the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings in 2010 as a non-profit initiative. It is published annually to demonstrate universities' commitment to and actions toward sustainability around the world.

It focuses on the current condition and policies related to green campus and sustainability in universities all over the world.

Since its inception, it has become increasingly recognised as the first and only university ranking on sustainability, and participating universities have used it to benchmark and improve their sustainability efforts.
