UEW Renews Partnership with Ten Institutions
Management of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) has today, Wednesday, 24th March, 2021, recommenced a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with ten of its affiliate institutions at a ceremony held at the Council Chamber, North Campus, UEW.
These affiliate institutions are the Advanced Business College, the BlueCrest College, the DHI College of Health and Education, the Entrepreneurship Training Institute, the Golden Star College of Education, the Jackson Educational Complex, the Jayee University College, the Regent University College, the Trans Africa College and the University College of Management Studies.
The Vice-Chancellor of UEW, Rev. Fr. Prof. Anthony Afful-Broni, assured the affiliate institutions of UEW’s strong team of experts to ensure that services rendered to them are of the highest standards.
“Two years ago, the Academic Board decided to halt accepting new affiliate institutions. This was because we didn’t want to just have the numbers. We wanted to concentrate on the few that were with us so that we could give them the quality services they expect from us. We would have doubled the numbers by now if we're just interested in the numbers. Sometimes, if you are not careful, you may be expanding at the cost of quality and we have cautiously guarded against that.
“We believe in the relationship, a relationship I can speak to as an educator, that by being the Pro-Vice-Chancellor for two terms and going round working with you, I learnt a lot from you. And let me repeat this, that when you have institutions affiliated to a well-established University, it should never be perceived as a master-servant relationship. I hope that over the years, we have not dictated to you and directed you or looked down upon you. I hope that over the years, we have had a relationship of mutual respect,” he stated.
Rev. Fr. Prof. Afful-Broni beseeched the affiliate institutions to continue to communicate with the University to gain a lot from each other in the relationship.
The Pro-Vice-Chancellor, UEW, Prof. Andy Ofori-Birikorang, on his part, stressed UEW’s love for working with the various affiliated institutions. “We want to indicate that from time to time, we send powerful teams to visit the institutions to come to terms with the issues that our affiliate institutions are confronted with so that we can together address them. So, once again you’re welcome. We want to indicate that we appreciate the relationship we have with you and going forward, we look to a more progressive perspective.”
The Registrar, UEW, Surv. Paul Osei-Barima Esq., in giving the purpose of gathering, narrated the journey of a new institution to becoming an independent institution citing UEW as a case study. “Affiliation marks a special relationship with institutions in areas of academic matters and we discuss these in the context of the University environment where most of us know that it is a specialised area or industry.”
“Apart from training manpower resources, it has a different role to play in the development of the country. In that case, we have the godly responsibility to see to the nurturing of future leaders, which makes us proud of our contribution to national development,” he said.
