UEW Matriculates 9,033 Regular Freshmen

The University of Education, Winneba (UEW) on Thursday, 31st March, 2022, held a matriculation ceremony for 9,033 regular freshmen and women at the Jophus Anamuah-Mensah Conference Centre, North Campus, Winneba.
Held in a semi-virtual mode for the matriculants, the ceremony was attended by members of convocation and class representatives. The event bestowed on matriculants all rights and privileges recognised by the University as well as an obligation on the University Management, to seek the welfare of its valued students.
The ceremony is a statutory process that grants new students membership in the University after they have met the academic requirements for admission and taken the matriculation oath. The oath binds the fresh students to abide by all the rules and regulations of the University as enshrined in the students’ handbook and other authorised documents of the University. The oath also requires students to be of good behaviour while pursuing their studies at UEW and beyond.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mawutor Avoke, in his address, pledged that Management would furnish matriculants with UEW’s own brand of comprehensive training for them to become a source of enlightenment to society. “This knowledge-driven experience, based on exceptional academic facilities and inspired by our amazing community of academics and staff, will undoubtedly provide you with a once-in-a-lifetime university experience.”
Prof. Avoke indicated that the University had widely expanded and provided WiFi access to the point that wherever students were within the University environment, they could easily access WiFi.

He implored the matriculants to view their matriculation as a process to develop themselves in positive ways. “I beseech you to strive for integrity and sincerity, critical thinking and problem-solving skills, proven values, and a positive attitude to work. These would set you apart from the rest, igniting a spark that would diminish the darkness of ignorance among our people, the world over and prove to the world that you were truly nurtured from the University of Excellence.”
The University received a total of 12,200 applications, with 10,639 undergraduate and 1,561 postgraduate applicants. However, a total of 9,033, consisting of 8,028 undergraduate and 1,005 postgraduate students registered by the end of the registration period.
