UEW Donates Cash and Dustbins to Improve Sanitation in Effutu
The Management of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) has donated 50 large dustbins and GHȻ20,000.00 to the Effutu Municipal Assembly in support of environmental sanitation and beautification efforts within the municipality.
The presentation was made on Monday, 11th May, 2026, at the forecourt of the UEW Administration Block on behalf of the University Management.
Speaking at the brief ceremony, Mrs. Ekua Abedi-Boafo, the Registrar of UEW, underscored the University’s commitment to the development and wellbeing of the Effutu Municipality. She stressed UEW’s commitment to remaining a key partner in promoting a clean and healthy environment. She explained that management considered the Assembly’s request for support “very paramount” due to the University’s longstanding responsibility towards the host community.
“We have that responsibility to support the development of the Effutu community. When Management received the request for support to the community, we considered it very paramount and agreed that the University would donate dustbins to support the sanitation situation in the municipality and also provide some cash amount for pruning and ensuring that our highways are always clean,” she stated.
Mrs. Ekua Abedi-Boafo expressed confidence that the items and cash donation would be put to good use to improve sanitation and environmental safety across the municipality. “We look forward to seeing that they are put to good use to ensure that our environment is safe for us all,” she added.
Receiving the items on behalf of the Assembly, Mr. Majeed Ayariga, the Effutu Municipal Coordinating Director, who is also an alumnus of UEW, conveyed the appreciation of the Municipal Chief Executive and the people of Effutu to the University for its timely intervention.
“On behalf of the Municipal Chief Executive and myself, I extend our gratitude for responding to our request as we needed it. The people of the municipality will benefit from this support,” he said.
Mr. Ayariga commended UEW for its continuous contributions to the growth and development of the municipality. He described the University as a major stakeholder in the municipality’s development agenda. “We always acknowledge your support. We continue to depend on that because we have identified you as a major stakeholder in the course of the development of the municipality,” he noted.
The donation forms part of UEW’s broader commitment to corporate social responsibility and its enduring partnership with the Effutu Municipality in promoting community development and environmental sustainability.
