Finance Section Holds 2019 Retreat and Capacity Building Workshop
The University’s Finance Section from Wednesday, 8th to Saturday, 11th January, 2020 held an annual review meeting and capacity building workshop for staff at the Elmina Beach Resort, Central Region, Ghana.
The workshop, held under the theme “Promoting workplace ethics and productivity: the role of the Accountant”, was graced by experts and professionals in specific fields who took participants through the nitty-gritty of being a successful employee in an organisation.
The workshop discussed topics that would augment staff development. Among the topics discussed included “International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS) 33 and Current Issues, Healthy Dieting, Personal Finance/Pension, Leadership Executive Posturing and Communication, Personal Financial Management (PFM) Regulations and Ethical Behaviour: Information Security and Confidentiality”.
The topics were handled so well by seasoned Speakers such as Prof. Edward Marfo Yiadom, Mr. Hayfron Aboagye, Mr. Johnny Mensah, Ms. Celestine Enyonam Mensah, Mr. E. T. Jamani Jnr. and Dr. Collins Badu Agyemang.
The Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Andy Ofori-Birikorang chaired the occasion on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Prof. Anthony Afful-Broni. In his remarks, he advised participants to be committed to duty. He recalled the importance of annual review meetings.
“Annual review meetings are a very big opportunity to reflect on our performance over the last year, to learn from our shortcomings and to become energised by our statutes to pursue greater achievement in the ensuing year. It is also the moment to reflect on the challenges we faced in the past year and strategise on how to creatively and proactively deal with such challenges in the new physical year,” he recounted.
Prof. Ofori-Birikorang was impressed by the comprehensive outline of activities for the programme especially blending with health and flavour.
The Finance Officer, Mr. Francis Obeng, in his welcome address, stated that productivity in the world of business, which looks at the relationship between output and input either in a single or multi factor dimension had become the best measure of the Public Sector worker’s contribution to justify government’s investment in Public Institutions in Ghana.
“I strongly believe that our integrity and religious values become questionable when we do not give up our best to substantiate government financial commitments into building vibrant, progressive, efficient and productive Public Institutions. Therefore, all of us men and women gathered here who directly or indirectly assist in the management of the resources of our dear University, which is one of the many Public Institutions in Ghana are privileged to be part of this convocation of officers of the University, to rejuvenate our pledge to be faithful and loyal to mother Ghana,” he said.
The retreat was climaxed with Dinner and Awards Night. Among the staff who were rewarded for their outstanding performance included Mr. Kwame Hayford Appiah (Best Performance, Senior Member), Mr. Timothy Paintsil (Overall Best Performance, Senior Staff), Mr. Joshua Kwabla Anani (Winneba Campus Best Performance, Senior Staff), Mr. Emmanuel Ohene Krapah (Kumasi Campus Best Performance, Senior Staff), Mr. Sampson Tengey (Mampong Campus Best Performance, Senior Staff) and Mr. Prince Alex Adoboe (Outstanding Dressed Staff for 2019).
