Department of University Relations and Protocol Services

The Department helps in the strategic management of the University's relationships with key publics to establish and maintain mutual lines of communication, understanding, acceptance, and cooperation for the mutual benefit of the University and its publics. This Department uses issues management, trend analysis, research, developing and maintaining media contacts, and sound and ethical communication as fundamental tools to inform and emphasise the responsibility of Management to serve public interests.

The Department is internally organised to consists of:

  • Public Relations (Issues Management/Community Relations) Unit,
  • Passages, Protocol, and Events Management Unit
  • Household, Catering and Reservation Services Unit
  • Media Relations Unit

The functions of the Department include:

  • Monitor public opinion to identify trends and measure public acceptability of the institution’s activities as well as identify public concerns and expectations.
  • Managing the university's image and reputation
  •  collaborate to build contact for media, manage and respond to media enquires as well as organise press conferences, exhibitions, open days, and press tours
  • Plan, develop and implement public relations strategies to maintain mutually beneficial relations between the university and its publics
  • Collaborate to develop high-quality print advertisement and promotional concepts and placements
  • Conduct perceptive studies into issues, attitudes, and opinions that impact the university
  • Collaborate to research, write and distribute press releases to targeted media
  • Deal with enquiries from the public and other related organisations
  • Liaise with relevant organs of the university to ensure the successful organisation of the university's programmes
  • Liaise with senior leadership to prepare plans for strategic crisis management and communication
  • Identify brands promoting opportunities and improve awareness of services and products
  • Provide press coverage for university programmes
  • Work with the community to identify their problems and to find ways to help address them while putting forth the university's messages and image in the community.
  • Help plan and implement the corporate social responsibility of the university
  • Generate a positive vibe about the University to its publics
