Office of the Deputy Registrar (ODR)

The Office of Deputy Registrar (ODR) is responsible for the overall strategic communication planning and coordinates the execution of same to ensure the successful implementation of the University's communications efforts with its internal and external publics. ODR coordinates and oversees the work of the Division of Publications and Communication (DPC) and liaises with Management and leadership to achieve the communication objectives of the University. All Departments and Units under the DPC shall be accountable to the ODR in the performance of their duties.

The core functions of the ODR include:

  • Serve as the executive editor of all the development, production, and maintenance of the University's internal and external communication vehicles, including the main website, publications, newsletters, invitations, flyers, advertisements, and reports.
  • Approve and refer to the Registrar, writings, and news releases announcing important university information and events.
  • Develop the overall integrated communication plan for the Division, including website, radio, print, and online publications leveraging the brand promise
  • Work with Management and leadership to achieve objectives by administering communication initiatives as determined by the organisational strategic management process.
  • Advise academic and administrative leadership on communication strategies and planning
  • Oversee the general policy direction and synergise the work and efforts of all departments and units within the Division for the implementation of the strategic communication plan.
  • Operate at the Divisional level in partnership with Management and leadership to ensure effective resourcing and strategic direction for projecting the brand image and the communication efforts of the University.
  • Ensure there is one clear narrative that is well understood across the University and implemented consistently to align with the brand.
  • Lead the development of a communication strategy that supports the communication of the University's vision.
  • Provide leadership on issues that relate to the University's brand, image, and profile, maximising opportunities and minimising risks
  • Lead in cultivating and building relationships and strategic alliances with the various publics of the University to deliver mutual benefits to the University and its publics
  • Create networks and appropriate partnerships to promote the visibility, image, and reputation of the University.
  • Show visible leadership by seeking to promote the benefits of skills and potential of personnel in the Division.
  • Allocate responsibilities and objectives to members of the Division and manage their performances to achieve set targets.   
  • Create a conducive climate that will enable members within the Division to work collaboratively and maximise their individual contributions.
  • Coordinate the activities of Departments and Units under the Division
