UEW Mourns the Tragic Loss of Prof. Koku Mawuadem Amedeker
- The Management of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) deeply regrets to announce the untimely and tragic death of Prof. Koku Mawuadem Amedeker, a distinguished physicist and member of our academic community.
- Prof. Amedeker was found murdered in a suspected robbery incident at his private residence in Gyahadzi, a suburb of the Efutu Municipality in the Central Region of Ghana.
- Following concerns raised by his family, who reported him missing to the police, a search was launched. This led to the heartbreaking discovery of his lifeless body buried on his compound.
- The Ghana Police Service has since commenced full-scale investigations into the incident and one suspect has already been arrested in connection with the crime.
- The University commends the swift response of the police and welcomes their assurance that all those involved in this heinous act will be brought to justice. We call on the public to support the ongoing investigations by providing any relevant information that may aid in apprehending the perpetrators.
- The University Management, together with the entire UEW community, extends its deepest condolences to the bereaved family. We share in their grief and pray for comfort and strength during this profoundly difficult time.
- In light of this unfortunate incident, the University wishes to assure all students, staff and stakeholders of its commitment to their safety and security. Measures are continuously being reviewed and enhanced in collaboration with security agencies to maintain a safe and conducive environment for academic work and personal well-being.
- The University will continue to work closely with the police and will provide timely updates to the public as more information becomes available.
