UEW Graduates 11,477 Students
The University of Education, Winneba (UEW), has graduated a total of 11,477 students at its first session of the 26th Congregation ceremony held at the Jophus Anamuah-Mensah Conference Centre, North Campus, Winneba from Monday 13th to Saturday 18th December, 2021.
Out of the total figure, 418 students representing 4% were awarded diplomas, 9,999 students representing 87% were awarded various first degrees while 1,060 students representing 9% were awarded various postgraduate degrees. Of the 9,999 first-degree graduands, 555 representing 5% obtained a first-class, 2,985 representing 30% had second-class upper, 3,766 representing 38% had second-class lower, and 2,074 representing 21% had third-class while 619 representing 6% had a pass.
On Monday 13th December, faculties from the Kumasi and Mampong Campuses now the Akenten Appiah Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED) commenced the 26th Congregation ceremony virtually with a total of 4,472 students who were presented with diplomas, first degrees, and various postgraduate degrees. These constituted five PhD graduates, 63 M.Phil graduates, 62 M.Tech graduates, 11 MSc graduates, 55 MBA graduates, 11 M.Ed graduates, 4,198 first degrees, and 67 diplomates.
On Wednesday, 15th December, 2021, the Winneba Campus began its in-person section with a total of 1,468 students from the School of Social Sciences Education who were conferred with their first degrees.
On Thursday, 16th December, 2021, a total of 1,781 students graduated from the Faculty of Science Education (FSE) and the School of Business with bachelor degrees and diplomas. They comprised 1,178 first degrees and 18 diplomas from FSE and 603 bachelor’s degrees from the School of Business.
A total of 2,178 students from the Faculties of Ghanaian Languages Education, Foreign Languages Education, and Educational Studies took their turn to graduate on Friday, 17th December, 2021. These entailed 2,003 first degrees across the aforementioned faculties and 175 diplomas for the Faculty of Educational Studies.
The Winneba campus ended the first session of the 26th Congregation ceremony on Saturday, 18th December, 2021, with a total of 1,578 students from the Schools of Creative Arts and Graduate Studies graduating. These consisted of 158 diploma students, 567 first degrees, 190 Postgraduate degrees, 13 Executive masters, 63 MA, 340 M.Ed, 5 MSc, 30 MBA, 201 M.Phil and 13 PhD graduates.
The Ag. Vice-Chancellor and Pro-Vice-Chancellor of UEW, Prof. Andy Ofori-Birikorang, beseeched the graduands to strive for integrity and sincerity. “Unleash your critical thinking and problem-solving skills, show your proven values, and have a positive attitude towards work”.
Prof. Ofori-Birikorang stated that the COVID-19 pandemic had highlighted the need and role of information technology as a leveller for economic transformation and growth. He, therefore, urged graduands to acquire the relevant digital skills to leverage technology and digitalisation to pursue future academic and professional goals.
