It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Faculty of Foreign Languages Education (FFLE) of the University of Education, Winneba. The Faculty is one of the three faculties of the College of Languages Education, headquartered in Ajumako. The Faculty has three departments: Applied Linguistics, English Education, and French Education (which also houses the German Unit). The Faculty has staff strength of 45 lecturers and a student population of 3817. We have a blend of faculty with diverse background and expertise in language and literature who pursue a vibrant research agenda, conduct multidisciplinary research in all aspects, and publish in reputable journals across the globe.

Our mandate is to train competent professional teachers at the undergraduate and graduate levels, for all levels of education. We also conduct research in foreign languages, disseminate knowledge, and contribute to national development. The Faculty prides itself in using modern technology and UEW’s learning management system (LMS) in its lesson delivery. In line with the mandate of the University of Education, Winneba, and the developmental agenda of Ghana, the Faculty offers, through its departments, programmes in Linguistics, English, and French, with areas covering language, literature, and cultural studies. In all, the Faculty offers degrees in regular programmes such as Bachelor of Arts, Master of Philosophy, and Doctor of Philosophy in Applied Linguistics, Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL), English, and French. The Faculty also runs Sandwich programmes in Master of Arts in English and French, and Master of Education in TESL as well as Translation for those who wish to enrol during the long vacation. By way of expansion, the Faculty is on course to commence the Bachelor of Arts in German and establish the Centre for Language Proficiency and Research (CLPR).

Over the years, the Faculty has built partnerships and networks with a number of institutions, including DAAD, which have created platforms for collaborative teaching, research, and scholarship. The Faculty aspires to develop more collaboration and networks in its effort to provide high quality foreign language education to our students. As a student of FFLE, you automatically belong to the wider UEW academic community. If you aspire to teach, research, or advocate foreign languages in Ghana and beyond, then look no further; FFLE is your best choice. A warm welcome awaits you as you join us to discover and harness your full potential in the study and research of foreign languages.
