The College for Distance and e-Learning (CODeL), University of Education, Winneba (UEW), has organised a seminar to evaluate the year's work and develop plans for the ensuing year, 2023. The seminar, organised for study centre coordinators and administrators, was held at the Gloriaka Hotel in Winneba.

The Ag. Principal of the College, Dr. Frimpong Kaakyire Duku, commended the coordinators for diligently holding forth for him at the various study centres of CODeL. He urged them to continue to ensure fair ground for all students, foster a supportive environment, act as role models, and make sure that both tutors and learners are punctual in their duties.

Dr. Duku further charged coordinators to spend time teaching students about the Online Students Information System (OSIS) and to encourage students to pay their fees on time to make them eligible to register for their classes.

The Deputy Registrar of CODeL, Mr. Jerry Addison Anyan, in alluding to the college’s mission and mandate to provide high-quality distance and e-learning education in the country, outlined examinations, admissions, academic ceremonies, student records and transcripts, as well as transport services as critical to the operations of the study centres, and the general administrative work of the Registry.

He appealed to administrators to ensure that students’ correct details are registered on answer sheets during examinations to avoid instances of incomplete results.

Mr. Charles Boakye, who made a presentation on behalf of the representatives of the study centres, highlighted the supervision of examinations and quizzes, the provision of counselling services, the management of materials, and the provision of feedback to the University Management as integral to their roles at the study centres.

He cited the prevalence of IC and X grades, low enrolment, late supply of modules, and piecemeal delivery of materials as major challenges facing the centres. He also beseeched Management to train coordinators in guidance and counselling and/or employ professional counsellors to assist students at various study centres.

The Head of Finance, Mr. Francis Amorni, in his presentation, highlighted some financial rules and regulations and urged that claims be filed early so that they could be paid on time.

Mr. Lawrence Quarshie, Quality Assurance Officer, on behalf of the Quality Assurance Directorate, bemoaned reports of examination malpractices at some study centres and charged administrators and coordinators to insist on the right things at the various study centres.
