Diploma in Basic Education
Description
The Diploma in Basic Education programme is designed to address the pressing need for well-trained teachers in basic education settings, particularly in Ghana. The rationale of the programme is rooted in the recognition that teacher quality is a critical factor in improving student learning outcomes. The programme is carefully designed to equip students with a broad-based foundation in all subjects, recognising that basic education is a critical stage where learners need a comprehensive understanding of various disciplines. By studying all subjects, the programme provides students with a solid understanding of the interconnectedness of knowledge and develops a well-rounded perspective of the basic education curriculum. The generalist nature of the programme further ensures that graduates are well equipped to handle the demands of teaching in basic education settings, where they may be required to teach multiple subjects. By providing students with a comprehensive foundation in teaching and learning, the programme prepares them to become effective teachers who can provide high-quality education to learners at the basic education level. The programme is exceptionally designed to align with Ghana’s national goals for education, which emphasise the need for quality teacher preparation and improved learning outcomes. The programme’s uniqueness lies in the fact that it provides a strong foundation for further studies in basic education, allowing graduates to pursue advanced degrees and specialise in specific areas of interest. By offering this programme, the student is adequately prepared to become part of a well-trained teaching force, ultimately improving the quality of basic education delivery in Ghana and beyond.
