The Master of Education in Political Science programme, is a master’s degree programme in Political Science with relevant courses in education. The programme aims to train graduates and equip them with the knowledge and teaching skills to analyze and address governance and public sector-related issues. This programme also aims at equipping and building the capacity of graduates with the knowledge and skills in public administration, international relations and development studies and comparative politics. The objectives of the M. Ed programme in Political Science are to:

  • build capacity of Political Science students and researchers for senior high schools and other higher educational institutions in the country.
  • equip students with practical knowledge and skills to fit into Political Science and the real world of work.
  • equip students with advanced analytical skills and techniques to identify, investigate, analyze, formulate and propose solutions to problems in Political Science.
  • provide students with the philosophical bases and research skills in quantitative and qualitative techniques to undertake research in Political Science.

Entry Requirement

Entry Requirements for Master of Education in Political Science

To be admitted to the post graduate programme, candidates must possess a good first degree in Political Science or in a related discipline.

  • Candidates applying for the programme should have Political Science major (First degree) or combined Political Science with another subject, and must have attained at least a Second-Class Lower Division.
  • Applicants without Political Science background, but who have relevant background may also be considered for admission if the Department is satisfied with their background knowledge and after successfully passing the selection interview organized by the Department.
  • Applicants who attained Third Class have to pass an entrance examination and/ or selection interview to be considered for admission.
  • Applicants after successfully pursuing the M. Ed programme may do a one-year top up leading to the award of an M.Phil. degree.
