UEW Hosts Delegation from University College of Northern Denmark

The University of Education Winneba (UEW) extended a warm welcome to representatives from the University College of Northern Denmark (UCN) at a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor and his Management team at the Council Chamber, North Campus, UEW.

The four-member delegation is at UEW to foster discussions and enhance existing collaborations in the field of education. The meeting, a productive engagement between the Management team of UEW and the visiting delegation from UCN, emphasised the commitment to furthering educational partnerships and initiatives.

The Vice-Chancellor of UEW, Prof. Stephen Jobson Mitchual, highlighted the significant role UEW plays in teacher education, not only within Ghana but across the West Africa subregion and beyond. He emphasised UEW's commitment to training teachers for all levels of education, from pre-school, kindergarten, primary, secondary, right up to the university levels.

Professor Mitchual unequivocally affirmed UEW's dedication to international collaborations, emphasising, "Our institution is not confined to local boundaries but operates on an international scale. We wholeheartedly support initiatives that advance knowledge." He expressed a keen interest in broadening collaborative efforts and warmly embraced the prospect of participating in the envisioned Erasmus project.

Professor C. K. Assuah, Dean of the Centre for International Programmes, elaborated on the fruitful partnership, stating that 18 students and 16 staff members have benefited so far. He highlighted the Erasmus programme's importance, which involves a combination of lectures and internships, fostering a continuous exchange of knowledge.

He intimated that the collaboration between UEW and UCN, which was initiated in 2017 and became fully operational in 2018, has seen mutual benefits for both students and staff. The Erasmus-funded initiative focuses on student and staff mobility, involving internships, lectures, and research experiences. He stated that currently, there are six UCN students in Ghana and four UEW students in Denmark, showcasing the success of the programme.

Anne L. Zakaria, the leader of the delegation, expressed gratitude for the existing collaboration and extended an invitation for UEW to join a significant initiative to become an affiliated partner in a massive Erasmus project with European universities. The European partners recognised UEW as a key player among African universities in the global south.   

The meeting concluded with a commitment to furthering the collaboration between UEW and its European partners. The potential inclusion in the large-scale Erasmus project marks a significant step forward for UEW, solidifying its position as a key player in global education partnerships.

The UCN delegation, comprising Anne Lassen Zakaria, Leader of the Delegation and Coordinator of International Relations and Lecturer in English within the Department of Teacher Education; Thomas Kjaergaard, PhD., an Associate Professor and Researcher specialising in English, ICT, and Online teaching and learning from the Department of Teacher Education; Ariana Mihalik Ward Jespersen, an Assistant Lecturer and Researcher focusing on English and Intercultural matters within the Department of Teacher Education; and Helle Krogsgaard, Head of Saeby Friskole (Alternative School), embarked on a collaborative exploration with UEW.
