UEW Alumna Appointed NASAAG General Secretary

Ms. Abigail Ayamba, an alumna of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), has been appointed General Secretary for the Board of Trustees and the Executive Board of Directors of the National Academy of Students’ Achievement Awards Ghana (NASAAG). 

She earned this feat on the back of her consistent engagements with students and unwavering passion for youth empowerment advocacy, particularly in the space of women empowerment and gender inclusion, and her contribution to social development, ethics, and morality among students and youth in Ghana. 

As the General Secretary, she is the mandatory line of communication for NASAAG's President and the point of contact for the Board of Trustees' Chairperson, ensuring the smooth operation of the academy's departments.

Her responsibilities include ensuring that meetings are well-coordinated, organised, and documented; keeping accurate records and effective administration; responding to preliminary communication and correspondence as well as forwarding it to the appropriate unit; and upholding the academy's legal information and requirements.

Speaking with the University Media Relations outfit, Ms. Abigail Ayamba, stated that the goals and mission of NASAAG prompted her to take the position. “Having observed and read about the activities of NASAAG, I was with great conviction that the award academy is forward-thinking, supportive, and one that recognises volunteers and so, I availed myself”. 

She mentioned that going forward, she would take professional courses in International Relations, Diplomacy, and Cooperate Affairs to build her reputation in the discharge of her duties and also help to strengthen the activities of NASAAG. 

Ms. Abigail Ayamba was the Vice President of Rotaract Club of UEW in 2021, the General Secretary for the UEW Chapter of the National Union of Ghana Students (2019-2020), Vice President of Third Star (UEW/Winneba Chapter, 2020-2021), Secretary of the Young Professionals and Youth Coalition (UEW-Chapter, 2019-2020) and Auditor for National Commission on Civic Education (UEW-Chapter, 2018) during her studies at the UEW.   

The National Academy of Students’ Achievement Awards Ghana is a not-for-profit educational, social training, and awarding academy established to empower, support, and properly position students in their respective chosen fields of expertise; entrepreneurship, leadership, creative arts and entertainment, sports, humanity, academics, among others. 

It was conceived on 9th November, 2019, but officially began operations in 2020. The award academy has organised two successful editions and plans are underway for the third this year.  

Since its inception, it has contributed to the collective national and global development by awarding the likes of Mr. John Dumelo and Dr. Daniel McKorley as the 2020 and 2021 National Best Student Supportive Entrepreneur/Philanthropist respectively; Rev. Fr. Prof. Anthony Afful-Broni as the 2021 National Industrious Vice-Chancellor; Alhaji Dr. Sheikh Nuhu Sharubutu (Century Award for Promotion of Peace and Unity; and Ms. Berlinda Addardey (Berla Mundi) as the 2021 National Students/Youth Role Model in Media.
