School of Creative Arts to introduce New Undergraduate and Postgraduate Programmes

The School of Creative Arts, one of the fastest growing Faculties of the University of Education, Winneba is poised to introduce new demand-driven and job-oriented undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. The innovative programmes are designed to equip learners with self-employable skills so that they can set up their own jobs after completion.

These programmes include Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting and Sculpture, Bachelor of Fine Arts in Animation; Master of Philosophy in Visual Communication Studies; and Master of Philosophy in Theatre Arts. This was made known at a two-day retreat for academic staff at Royal Lee’s Hotel, Tutu Akuapem, from August 31 – September 2, 2018.

The retreat amongst others was to enable the four Departments in the School namely Art Education, Graphic Design, Music Education and Theatre Arts plan new programmes and review existing programmes to deepen the self-employable skills of learners. It was also an opportunity for reflection on the best ways of gleaning the creative potentialities within the various Departments in the School for professional, institutional and national development, through the newly created Centre for Research in Culture and Creative Arts (CeRCCA) at the Central Campus. To this effect, Professors James Flolu and C. W. K. Mereku greatly supported the deliberations with their rich academic and professional experiences.

In an address to the members of the Faculty, Dr. Patrique deGraft-Yankson, the Dean of the Faculty expressed his heartfelt gratitude to them for their patronage and active participation in the retreat and charged them to remain resolute and united for the betterment of the Faculty. He said, the School could only grow stronger and better when ‘we learn to work together and walk holding hands’. He spoke about the ephemerality of any leadership position, emphasising that all must work to put the needed structures in place to sustain the speedy growth of the Faculty and the University as a whole.
