School of Creative Arts Embarks on an Outreach Programme

On Thursday, March 15, 2018, a four-member team of lecturers from the Department of Graphic Design, Department of Art Education, and Fashion and Textiles Education Unit in the School of Creative Arts, University of Education, Winneba visited Potsin T.I. Ahmadiyya Senior High School in the Central Region of Ghana to interact with staff and students of the Visual Art Department. The rationale for the visit was to sensitize the students on the significance of the visual art programme they have chosen and the strong option of applying to further their education at the University of Education, Winneba. It was also organised as an outreach programme for the University of Education, Winneba. 

The lecturers who embarked on this outreach programme were Dr. Ebenezer Acquah, the Acting Head of Department, Graphic Design, Dr. Joseph Essuman, Examinations Officer, Graphic Design, Mr. Emmanuel Aboagye, lecturer in Art Education, and Mr. Henry Aryeetey, Technician at the Department of Art Education. The visit was also supported by the Acting Dean, School of Creative Arts, Dr. Patrique deGraft-Yankson and the Head of Department of Art Education, Dr. A. K. Kemevor.

Through video documentaries and slide presentations, the students were exposed to the mission and vision of the University of Education, Winneba, programmes in the Department of Graphic Design, Art Education, and Fashion and Textiles Unit, courses and job opportunities linked to the courses.

The Head of the Visual Art Department of Potsin T.I. Ahmadiyya Senior High School, Mr. K. Christian thanked the lecturers for the visit and added that such programmes should be organised, at least every year for the students to understand the career opportunities available in the Creative Arts. The students also expressed their appreciation for the visit adding that it was very beneficial and timely.
