SACOST SHINING STAR AWARD HONOURS STUDENTS OF THEATRE ART

The Centre for School and Community Science and Technology Studies (SACOST) of the Institute of Educational Research and Innovative Studies (IERIS) has organised an Award Ceremony to honour 31 student performers of the Department of Theatre Art who have distinguished themselves in their theatrical productions and dance performances.

The Chairman for the programme, Prof. Samuel Asiedu Addo, Dean, Faculty of Science Education in a remark, commended the Department for the brilliant work being done for the University. He challenged the students to have great passion for the course they are pursuing, adding that this would help them in making a difference in society.

He urged students to shun away from inferiority complex and be ready to unleash their full potential. He expressed his optimism that the awards would spur them on to greater heights and they would eventually become ‘celebrities’ upon completion of their courses.

Prof. Raheem Kolawale, Head of SACOST said the SACOST Shining Star Award was instituted in 2011 through the efforts of three Senior Members, namely: Dr. Thomas Tachie Young (Deceased), Mr. Stephen Dennis and himself. He noted that the need for this award stemmed out of the desire to create a platform to acknowledge the efforts of student performers of the Department of Theatre Arts who perform at various University gatherings to educate and entertain audience through cultural displays and drama. He urged the students to be ready to realize their full potentials without doubts and fears.
He assured the Department of his readiness to assist them in several ways to successfully carry out their work.

On his part, the Head of Department, Mr. Brew Riverson, Jnr. encouraged students to work hard and not be complacent if they wished to make it to greater heights in life. He challenged them to critique works done by others as a way of being creative in their chosen fields. He noted that all great inventors in life started with an idea and the implementation of those ideas resulted in their greatness. He entreated the students to be committed to duty and to come up with innovative ideas that would make them stand out in society as well as fetch them money after school. Prof. Obebe, Faculty of Social Science who was the special guest of honour at the event added his voice to commend the students whose excellent performances have earned the admiration of the organizers. He told them not to relax but be more encouraged to achieve more for themselves, the Department and Mother Ghana.

The Awardees were very appreciative of the organizers and their Department for the honour done them. Staff of the Department of Theatre Arts and the Institute of Educational Research and Innovative Studies (IERIS) attended the event. Also, Student Observers from the Department of Theatre Arts were also present. Nana Brefo Nimako, an Alumnus of the Department of Theatre Arts designed the Certificate of Award presented to the students.
