Department of History Education Joins NTNU for NORPART Grant

The Department of History Education of the University of Education, Winneba has been nominated as one of the three Universities in Ghana for the implementation of the NORPART grant. The Grant which is for a period of five years is aimed at promoting Intercultural Historical Studies between Ghana and Norway.
The Grant is packaged to allow students from both universities to undertake exchange programmes, introduce graduate programmes in history education to be jointly run by UEW and Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) and conferences attendance by stakeholders of the two universities.
To implement this programme, the Department of History Education is collaborating with two Professors of History of the Department of Historical Studies (NTNU) Prof. John Osei-Tutu and Prof. John Olav to develop an MA History Education (Sandwich) programme at UEW.
The programme package is structured to afford NTNU students opportunity to take courses with UEW students during an intensive five-week period. The 5-week study will examine Atlantic History and Heritage from various perspectives. The UEW students to be selected will continue to do their M.Phil programme with sponsorship to spend a semester at NTNU to access the expertise of the foreign lecturers, resources and to dig deeper into their research topics.
Throughout the period, there will be stakeholders meetings to evaluate the progress, identify and share successes, and plan for further collaborations. One possibility is the development of a database/archive where historical, archeological, artifacts and other records from research on various aspects of the nation are shared to researchers across the world.
According to the Head of Department for History Education, Dr. Jim Weiler, the project is a wonderful opportunity for the Department of History Education to collaborate with a highly recognized international university, NTNU.
