UEW Hospital Accredited for Nursing and Midwifery Training and Licensing Examinations

The University of Education, Winneba (UEW) Hospital has secured accreditation from the Nursing and Midwifery Council (N&MC) of Ghana as an approved facility for the training of nursing and midwifery students as well as the conduct of the Council’s Practical Licensing Examinations.

The approval follows a comprehensive assessment by the N&MC which confirmed that the Hospital met all prescribed standards and requirements for clinical training and examination administration. The accreditation takes effect from July 2026 and will remain valid for two years, subject to review.

In a formal correspondence to Dr. John Kanyiri Yamba, the Director of UEW Health Services, the N&MC indicated that the facility has fulfilled all requisite criteria for training of nursing and midwifery students as well as for the administration of practical licensing examinations. Furthermore, the Council emphasised the importance of the hospital's continued adherence to the necessary standards that promote safety and create a conducive environment for effective clinical training and assessment.

The accreditation marks a significant milestone in the growth of the University Hospital and reinforces UEW’s commitment to excellence in healthcare delivery, professional training and clinical education. It also positions the Hospital as a recognised centre for nursing and midwifery education, strengthening its role in supporting the preparation of competent healthcare professionals for Ghana’s health sector.

The Nursing and Midwifery Council, in conveying the approval, commended the Hospital for its cooperation and commitment to advancing professional standards in nursing and midwifery education and practice.  

The accreditation is expected to enhance practical training opportunities for nursing and midwifery students while expanding UEW Hospital’s contribution to the development of a highly skilled healthcare workforce in Ghana.
