The Department of Applied Linguistics at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), in collaboration with the Linguistics Students Association (LINGSA), will organise a seminar for Linguistics students from the Winneba and Ajumako campuses.

Date: Saturday, March 14, 2026
Time: 9:00 a.m. prompt
Venue: SLT 8, South Campus, Winneba

The seminar, themed “Navigating the Linguistics Journey: Career Opportunities, Postgraduate Pathways, and Academic Discipline,” is designed to provide undergraduate Linguistics students with guidance on academic development, career opportunities in linguistics, and pathways to postgraduate study.

The programme will feature presentations on three key topics:

  • Why Study Linguistics? Career Opportunities in the Field

  • Postgraduate Pathways and Specialisation: Scholarship Opportunities for Undergraduate and Postgraduate Students

  • Discipline and Time Management as Tools for Academic Success

These sessions are expected to equip students with practical insights into the diverse opportunities available in the field of linguistics and the strategies required to achieve academic and professional success.

Distinguished linguistics scholars and administrators from leading universities will serve as speakers at the event. They include:

  • Prof. Emmanuel Amo-Ofori, Ghana Director of the Confucius Institute at the University of Cape Coast and Associate Professor in the Department of Ghanaian Languages and Linguistics at the University of Cape Coast

  • Prof. Abraham Kwesi Bisilki, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Foreign Languages Education and Associate Professor in the Department of Applied Linguistics at UEW

  • Prof. Kwasi Adomako, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Ghanaian Languages Education and Associate Professor in the Department of Applied Linguistics at UEW

The seminar will be chaired by Dr. Rogers Krobea Asante, Head of the Department of Applied Linguistics at UEW.

The seminar is part of the Department’s efforts to strengthen academic engagement and mentorship among Linguistics students across UEW’s campuses. It will also allow students to interact with experienced scholars who will share insights on academic growth, research opportunities, and career prospects in linguistics and related fields.

Students are encouraged to participate actively in the discussions and interact with the guest speakers to learn from their academic and professional experiences. The organisers believe the seminar will motivate students to approach their studies with greater discipline and begin planning for their future careers and postgraduate education.
