UEW Enhances Exam Integrity Through Training
The University of Education, Winneba (UEW), reinforced its commitment to maintaining academic integrity and ensuring credible assessment procedures through a comprehensive training and orientation programme for examination officers, coordinators and graduate studies representatives.
The training, held on Thursday, 28th August 2025, at the North Campus Mini-Conference Room, gathered key stakeholders responsible for ensuring the smooth and transparent conduct of examinations across the University.
Addressing attendees, Prof. Esther Yeboah Danso-Wiredu, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, emphasised that effective examination management is not just an administrative task but a core responsibility that protects the University’s reputation.
She encouraged officers to view the training as an opportunity to gain new skills, exchange experiences and improve professionalism. “Your contribution is indispensable to ensuring fairness, transparency and efficiency in our assessment processes,” she stated.
Mr. Cletus Ngaaso, in a detailed presentation, stressed the importance of strictly following UEW’s Students’ Handbook and Examination Handbook. He outlined essential rules, including the prompt arrival of candidates, the role of chief invigilators in maintaining order, gender-sensitive security checks to prevent harassment and strict bans on unauthorised materials, mobile devices and impersonation. He also highlighted that only students who fulfil attendance, continuous assessment and registration requirements are eligible for examinations.
Mr. Asare Okae-Anti emphasised that examination officers and coordinators should balance the needs of both students and lecturers while upholding integrity and discipline. He underscored the importance of transparency in record-keeping, diligence in executing responsibilities and leading by example. “Our relationship with students and colleagues must be guided by integrity, determination and discipline to achieve success,” he stated.
Prof. (Mrs.) Emma Sarah Eshun, Director of Quality Assurance, assured participants that the University was prepared to provide logistical, security and health support during examinations.
She revealed that measures such as safety checks, ambulance services, security deployment and maintenance works had been implemented across all campuses to ensure smooth proceedings. She also urged officers to proactively address challenges within their departments and collaboratively uphold quality standards. “Quality begins with us. Let us all come together to ensure professionalism and successful examinations,” she emphasised.
The training served as a platform for networking, sharing knowledge and reaffirming UEW’s stance on examination integrity. Management expressed optimism that the skills gained would further strengthen academic quality assurance and help preserve UEW’s reputation as a centre of excellence in teacher education.
