ABSTRACT:

This book exposes students to the development of French novel and French schools of taught from 18th to 19th centuries. It highlights the propagandist works of Enlightenment of 18th century writers such as Voltaire, Montesquieu, Diderot and Jean Jacques Rousseau before proceeding to deal with literary movements such as Romanticism, Realism, Naturalism and Symbolism in the 19th century. 19th century writers such as Balzac, Baudelaire, Maupassant, and Zola among others are also considered in this book.
